Instead of manually creating the directory structure needed for an archetype, simply use:

mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeGroupId=com.liferay.faces.archetype -DarchetypeArtifactId=com.liferay.faces.archetype.jsf.jsp.portlet -DarchetypeVersion=4.0.2
